Teaching in Japan, Gaba One-to-One English

Living and working in Japan : Teaching in Japan : Overseas Recruiting, Gaba Offers

Manage your Lifestyle

Some come to Japan to study the language, culture and tradition, others to explore the country and its neighbors. Whatever your ambitions may be, Gaba recognizes that everyone is different. That is why we offer a unique contract that allows instructors to choose their own teaching schedules.

Essentially: Teach more, earn more.

Upon deciding a schedule for the month, instructors submit their requested hours for publication on the GabaWeb. Once posted, clients freely choose when, where and with whom to study. How about vacations? In the event an instructor wants time off, a schedule is simply not submitted for that period.

Gaba's Learning Studios are open early and close quite late. Weekend hours are shorter but often the busiest days of the week.

Weekday hours: 7:00am - 10:00pm*
Weekend hours: 10:00am - 7:45pm*

To make the most of their teaching schedules, instructors consider their plans (language school, aikido classes, etc.) but also their clients. Busiest times are first thing weekday mornings (7:00am - 8:30am where available), evenings (5:30pm onward) and all day weekends and holidays. In particular, as the first month can start slow, new instructors are advised to take these “peak” times into account as working these hours is the fastest way to develop a steady following of clients.

*These times denote the start of the last lesson. Some studios start later in the morning.

Peace of mind

Although the decision to relocate to Japan can be daunting and similar businesses offer accommodation and other perks, Gaba does not. In keeping with the company's missions, Gaba seeks independent, self-starters to teach from the Learning Studios. That said, we will support those selected with thorough information on housing, health insurance and general tips for living comfortably in Japan. This support begins during the recruitment process and continues throughout the instructor's time with Gaba.
