Health insurance policy

Health insurance policy for newly arriving instructors

Enrollment in a Japanese government-managed health insurance system is a legal requirement of all residents of Japan. The only exceptions are Working Holiday Visa and SOFA* holders. This requirement has existed for some time, but enforcement has generally been soft. The government, however, is moving toward a stricter stance with new procedures likely to be implemented in the near future.

Gaba is encouraging all of its existing instructors who are not presently enrolled to contact their city offices and make the proper arrangements in order to register.

We extend this encouragement to all foreign nationals currently residing in Japan. Although enrollment is not presently a requirement to apply at Gaba, both employees and instructors alike are expected to be compliant with the rules and regulations governing the country.

Also, for those enrolled through a spouse or guardian, it is important to be aware of possible income limits. Exceeding the limit may result in the necessity to pay additional insurance premiums.

Visit your local ward or city office for more details.
